Young birds

English

  • De jonge vogel zit nog niet goed in de veren;
  • De jonge vogel is zichtbaar gewond;
  • De jonge vogel zit op een druk punt waar geen groen in de buurt is;
  • De ouder(s) zijn al uren niet meer gezien;

  • De jonge vogel zit goed in de veren;
  • De jonge vogel is niet zichtbaar gewond;
  • De ouders zijn in de buurt;

Young birds

Young birds learn how to fly and survive from the ground and are fed and protected by their parents during this process.

Learning to fly and survive takes from a few days to sometimes even a week and is accompanied by falling, standing and moments of rest. All adult birds have also learned it this way.

Picking up and transporting a (young) bird is very stressful and that can cause the bird to die during transport to the bird shelter.

We therefore prefer not to collect young birds.

Contact our control room if you want to consult whether a young bird needs help: +31(0)20 - 626 21 21.

When to pick up a young bird?

Do's

  • The young bird is not yet well in the feathers;
  • The young bird is visibly injured;
  • The parents have not been around for hours;
  • The young bird is on a very busy street with no greenery nearby;
  • The young bird is surrounded by many cats.

Don'ts

  • The young bird is well feathered;
  • The young bird is not visibly injured;
  • The parents are nearby;
  • The young bird sits near a piece of greenery such as bushes, trees, etc.
