Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board consists of:

Elleke Frumau
Marcel van Venetiën
Marjolein van de Paverd

The work at Animal Ambulance Amsterdam is largely carried out by volunteers. There are also a number of people in permanent employment. The organisation is managed by Martijn van der Weerd (director-director) and he is supervised by the Supervisory Board. All members of the Supervisory Board are volunteers and receive no remuneration for their work at the Animal Ambulance.

Raphaël van Kraaij

Raphaël van Kraaij (1981) works as an administrative secretary in the healthcare sector and has lived in Amsterdam since 2001.

(President; Political relations and governance)

Raphaël is originally from Brabant and started studying in Amsterdam in 2001. His education is at the intersection of medicine, health law and healthcare management. In the past, he has been active as a Member of Parliament in Amsterdam-Centre district politics.

Diederik Dorst

Diederik Dorst (1980) works at a FinTech company and lives in Amsterdam Oost.

(Vice-president; Finance)

Diederik has lived in East since 2005 and was a lawyer before entering the financial sector as chief regulatory officer. He likes practical solutions to tricky puzzles and has experience with people work, supervision, finance and government. He enthusiastically dedicates himself to people and animals in our city, to the delight of his daughter, wife and Tijgertje, one of Amsterdam's sweetest cats.

Elleke Frumau

Elleke Frumau (1973) is a veterinarian and, until recently, owner of Dierenkliniek Amsterdam.

(Animal welfare) 

Elleke graduated in 2003 and after gaining experience at a number of practices, she returned to Dierenkliniek Amsterdam in 2009 (formerly Dierenkliniek Westerpark), this was the first workplace after her graduation. It immediately felt like coming home for Elleke. This is still the best profession there is, says Elleke. Besides caring for the animals, there is also a piece of caring for the owner involved. It remains important to be good to animals and people in this profession. That is what Dierenkliniek Amsterdam is committed to every day.

Marcel van Venetiën

Marcel van Venetiën (1977) works as director of Marketing & Sales at the Consumers' Association.

(Fundraising)

Marcel has held managerial positions in marketing, commerce, membership recruitment and innovations at several companies. He lives with his wife, daughters and two rabbits. Marcel was chairman of a swimming club with 100% volunteers for many years. As a proud Supervisory Board member, he enjoys contributing to animal welfare in Amsterdam.

Marjolein van de Paverd

Marjolein van de Paverd (1974) is a fundraiser with a heart for animals.

(Fundraising)

Marjolein has worked as a fundraiser at Greenpeace and Stichting AAP. Under the name FC Marjolein, she advises and supports charities around setting up and achieving their fundraising goals. Marjolein was born and raised in Purmerend and lives there with husband, daughter and the two cutest cats in the world.

Martijn van der Weerd

Martijn van der Weerd is director-director of Dierenambulance Amsterdam. 

(Director-director)

Martijn has lived, studied and worked in Amsterdam for 25 years. He has held various managerial positions at higher education institutions since graduation and was employed at Utrecht University until 2023. He has volunteered at the Animal Ambulance Amsterdam as a driver and animal helper since 2018 and has been proudly the director-director of the Animal Ambulance since 2023.
